Kara Ged — “My Home” in the language of Darnley Island
A not-for-profit Empowerment & Elite Training Centre for Far North Queensland — where culture, movement and learning come together.

Kara Ged is a newly established not-for-profit founded by Cayla and Kailu George. Our goal is to give the Far North Queensland community a home for elite training and genuine connection — fostering growth, learning and belonging.
Our logo merges a palm tree with a basketball: a nod to the tropics and to the role of sport in bringing people together.

A comprehensive Empowerment and Elite Training Centre, designed around the way the community trains, recovers, learns and connects.
For both recreational and professional use.
Catering to every fitness level and training need.
Equipped with the latest in recovery technology.
Resources and quiet space for educational growth.
Nutrition education and hands-on cooking classes.
A platform for storytelling and community engagement.
Space for families from remote communities to stay when needed.

Honouring and celebrating local cultures — keeping story, Country and identity at the centre of everything we do.
Supporting individuals with disabilities through inclusive training, movement and recovery in a space designed for everyone.
Encouraging everyone to take part and feel welcomed — from first-time movers to elite athletes.

With the Olympics on the horizon and basketball rounds hosted in Cairns, Kara Ged aims to serve visiting nations and host preparation camps for Australia’s national teams.
We also hope to welcome WNBL and NBL teams for pre-season training when visiting the Cairns Taipans — including a professional team from Taiwan, eager to prepare with us.

Kara Ged gives young athletes the chance to train like the pros — and to share their own stories along the way.
Kara Ged is more than a facility — it’s a community hub that will inspire, educate and empower.
